TEACHERS TRIBUTE

SHEPHERD TO SHEEP

A TRIBUTE TO SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS

(2 Tim 3:15) and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

When I was a child my parents took me to church. They’d go into the sanctuary with all the stained glass and wooden pews while I’d go over to the Sunday school area with the other kids. We’d meet in a large room for singing hymns and giving our offering. After that we’d go into separate rooms according to our age groups and have a Bible lesson. I loved it! I remember one husband and wife team that made it so fun I had no problem being motivated to get out of bed on Sunday morning. We memorized Bible verses, the books of the Bible, the Lord’s prayer, and the Ten Commandments. We’d have craft time and when it was all over we’d march out singing “Onward Christian Soldiers” and I’d wait for my parents on the steps of the church. After church one Sunday I walked home by myself looking at the clouds thinking it would nice to know the God who lives beyond those clouds.

Well, we kind of drifted away from the church like a lot of families do until my brother Steve got saved at an evangelical church. We all went to see him get baptized. This so impressed us as a family we ended up going to that church and we all accepted the Lord as our Savior. I had the best Youth Sunday school teacher who loved and accepted us. He taught the book of Revelation and I was riveted! Eventually I gave in to the pull of the world and I strayed from the Lord and stopped going to church. But those people from that church prayed for me and I rededicated my life to the Lord. And suddenly everything I had learned from my Sunday school teachers came alive! I was prepared for a vital walk with the Lord because there had been so much investment placed into my soul by those faithful servants of the Lord.

So here’s to the devoted Sunday school teachers who have been serving the Lord by serving God’s little ones. You need to know that you are making a difference by your showing up and loving and teaching the children in your class. You come prayed up and prepared and those kids leave church as blessed as the parents from their time in “grown-up” church. You are investing in the life of a child who will grow up and love Jesus. They might stay or stray (like me) but your impact will stay with them because love never fails and God’s Word never returns void! (1 Cor 13:8; Isa 55:10-11)

• (Prov 22:6) Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

• (Mark 10:14) …"Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.

• (Mat 25:40) "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'
