A Holy Calling
2 Timothy 1:9 (NKJV) “9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,”
We were created to be in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Even before time began, God was not only thinking of us, He made provision to save us and to set upon us a holy calling in our lives.
In asking Jesus Christ for forgiveness of our sins, repenting of our sins and asking Him to be the Lord and Savior of our lives, we are saved. But that’s not all… After we are saved, God has blessed us with a holy calling, setting us apart from the world so that we would follow after and in the steps of Jesus Christ.
This holy calling can be found throughout the Bible, but is summarized in Matthew 22:37–40 (NKJV) “37 Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.””
The Bible says to love God first. The World says to love yourself first. The Bible says to love (or treat) others the way you want to be treated. The world says to treat others the same way or worse than you have been treated.
God desires that we live holy and above the ways of the world. The Bible tells us in Isaiah 55:9 (NKJV) “9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Don’t be swayed by the ways of the world. Yes, it is easy to treat others the way you’ve been treated. Yes, it is easy to put yourself before God. But God knows that living a worldly lifestyle will only cause ourselves and others unnecessary pain and suffering. Rather, let’s love Jesus first instead of ourselves and let’s love others as we want to be treated for we have a holy calling!
