The Romans Road (How to be saved)
There are four points to the Romans road.
- 1. Romans 3.23, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God...". Recognize that you have sinned and fallen short of God's perfect standards. Sin means to miss the mark and we have all missed the mark of God's perfect standard. Have you lied, have you stolen, have you looked upon someone lustfully? These are but a few of the standards God has ordained we shouldn't commit. What's more is if we break one of the commands of God, He declares us guilty of breaking them all.
- 2. Romans 6.23, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.". The penalty for our sin is eternal separation from God. Eternal death or eternal separation from God is spending eternity in the lake of fire instead of heaven. God in His righteous judgment will enact justice upon those who have sinned against Him.
- 3. Romans 5.8, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.". We were born sinners thanks to Adam. But God did not leave us without provision to escape eternal death! God knew that we could never save ourselves for once we have sinned, there is no undo button or white-out that could erase what we've done. So in God's love, He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. It is only through the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His death on the cross that we can have the opportunity to be saved. This is our only lifeline, our only provision to escape eternal death and what's more is not only do we escape eternal death, but we can now have eternal life.
- 4. Romans 10.9 "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." You've sinned. Your condemned to eternal death. Your only hope of eternal life (heaven) is Jesus Christ, now you must choose for yourself if you want the help Jesus offers. It involves humility, for if you are trying to save yourself, you are acting in pride. Help does not include self-effort only self-confession. You can never enter into heaven on the coat tail of your father or mother or church. You must make this choice for yourself. The choice is to confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead and you will be saved! No climbing mountains or swimming the length of the sea, just confession and belief. It's so smile even a child can do it.
God has made salvation as simple as possible for us. From the oldest person to even a child, salvation is attainable by simply confessing and believing (faith).
May you choose eternal life through Jesus Christ today!
