Cast off Your Sin!
Mark 9:47 (NKJV) “47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire—”
What a radical statement by Jesus. Sin is so detestable to Jesus that we are to be radical in how we deal with it. In the book of Genesis, we see a man of God named Joseph who dealt with sin in a radical way.
Genesis 39:11–12 (NKJV) “11 But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside, 12 that she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.”
So Joseph’s boss’ (master) wife cast longing eyes on Joseph. She habitually made advances towards him to which he confronted her and stated he couldn’t sin against God by having relations with her. But she wasn’t detoured, in fact, she waited until the men were outside the house, when she made her move. She grabs him by his garment and says “lie with me.” Joseph recognized the sin of engaging in premarital sexual intercourse as well as the sin against his master and ultimately his sin against God. So rather than accept her advances, Joseph runs out of the house, while she continues to hold onto his coat. Many scholars believe this may have been Joseph’s only clothing article, meaning that Joseph ran out of the house and away from sin even at great embarrassment to himself.
Similar to what Jesus said that it is better to enter into heaven with one eye than to enter into hell with two eyes, so too did Joseph enter into heaven without his coat, rather than choosing to enter into hell with his coat.
Sin will take you further than you wanted to go, keep you longer than you wanted to stay and cost you more than you wanted to pay.
Abandon sin at all cost and trust in Jesus for heaven is waiting for you!
